I’m a long-time Alaskan, a pioneer by Alaska’s definition. I think everyone has a place in the world and some people wander but never find it. Some are born in their place. But I found my place, Interior Alaska in the 70s. It’s home to me and although I visit other places, I don’t quite fit in anywhere but here.
I’m semi-retired meaning that I retired from a long and varied career as a teacher, only to continue working as a mentor to new teachers and a coach to schools who are working on being more effective. As a result, I travel to some unusual, exotic, beautiful places right here in Alaska. I pack light, carry it myself and bring my own food and usually some to share.
I’m a long-distance hiker (1400 miles on the Appalachian Trail, 900 on the Pacific Crest Trail and many miles on Alaska trails in the last 5 years), an avid reader and writer, an amateur birder, a devoted Grandma, a lover of puzzles, a part-time geocacher. I love the time I spend with family and friends. I’m committed to leaving a small footprint on the Earth, so I conserve, reuse, reduce and only spend 5 minutes getting ready in the morning.
I love having lived long enough to be able to make choices about my time and lifestyle. I hope you enjoy the stories I share on this blog.
